Rome Makes it Three in a Row

Rome, GA- The Rome Braves defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 7-4 Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 4,059 fans.

The Braves jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Ardley Jansen led off with a single to right. A fielding error by Greenjackets third baseman Scott White allowed Martin Prado to reach base moving Jansen to second. White committed his second error of the inning on a Steven Doetsch grounder to third to load the bases. Scott Schade then singled to right center driving in Jansen and Prado advancing Doetsch to second base. He later scored on a base hit by Miguel Bernard to give Rome a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Rome center fielder Steven Doetsch nailed the first homerun of the season to center field to make the score 4-0.

For Augusta in the top of the fourth, Jeff Ontiveros walked and went to third on a double by Scott White. Heriberto Guzman then tripled to left field driving in White and Ontiveros. Brandon Moss later singled to left scoring Guzman to cut the Braves lead to 4-3.

Rome added three insurance runs in the eighth inning highlighted by a long two run homer by Carlos Guzman.

The Braves held on for the victory 7-4 with Sean White getting the win in relief (1-0) while Augusta starter Jose Vaquedano received the loss (0-1).

The Braves and Greenjackets meet for the last game of the series Sunday at State Mutual Stadium at 2:00pm. There will be a pre-game Easter egg hunt for the first 100 children twelve and under. Also, American Idol finalist and Rome native Lisa Wilson will be singing the National Anthem and throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Gates will open at 1:00pm.
