Braves Chewed Up By Riverdogs - Braves Trail Series 2-1

Rome, GA – The Rome Braves lose tonight’s game 9-4 to the Charleston Riverdogs in front of a near sell out crowd of 5,058 at State Mutual Stadium.

Charleston overpowered Braves tonight with two big innings. The Riverdogs posted four runs in the first highlighted by a RBI single by Kevin Smith driving in Mitch Hilligoss for the early 1-0 lead. James Cooper would follow with a two RBI triple to right-center field scoring Scott Fortenberry and Smith for the 3-0 advantage. Cooper would add to Charleston’s lead by touching the plate on Josue Calzado’s RBI single to center field making the score 4-0.

Rome took two runs back in the home half of the first when Tyler Flowers hit a two RBI triple to center field plating Jon Mark Owings and Willie Cabrera bring the Braves closer at 4-2. Flowers would strike again hitting a two run homer in the fourth inning tying the game at 4-4. The Riverdogs took the lead for good with five runs in the sixth on four hits aided by two Braves errors. Charleston gets the win 9-4.

Tim Gustafson gets branded with the loss for Rome (2-6), while Grant Duff (9-5) gets credit for the win for Charleston.
