Rome over Savannah - Braves Stay Hot at Home - Roster Moves Made
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves took game two of their three game series against
Savannah winning the game
7-4 before a crowd of 3,018 at State Mutual Stadium. Rome continues to stay
hot at home winning their fourth game in their last five attempts.
Savannah quickly jumped on the board in the first inning as Joe Holden reached
on an in-field hit, advanced to second on a throwing error by Michael Broadway,
and later scored on an RBI double by Brahiam Maldonado giving the Sand Gnats
the 1-0 lead. Juan Lagares doubled in the second, scoring Josh Thole who walked
earlier in the inning giving Columbus the 2-0 advantage. Rome scored a run in
their half of the second as Jon Mark Owings hit a solo homerun (9) making it
a 2-1 game. The Sand Gnats added two runs in the fourth as D.J. Wabick doubled
scoring Holden and Maldonado who both singled increasing Columbus lead by a
4-1 margin.
The Braves tied the game in the fourth as Tyler Flowers blasted a three run
homer (6) scoring Robert Macial and Phillip Britton who both singled to start
off the inning. Rome took the lead in the fifth as Willie Cabrera singled to
start the inning and advanced to third on an Owings double to right. He later
crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Concepcion Rodriguez giving Rome the
5-4 edge. The Braves added two insurance runs in the sixth for the 7-4 lead
and Rome pitching shutout the Gnats the rest of the way for the win.
Michael Broadway earns the win (6-4) while Julio Polanco picks up the loss
(1-5). Tyler Wilson earns his third save on the season.
Roster Moves: Chase Fontaine has been placed on the disabled list and Travis
Jones joins the Rome club from Danville of the Appalachian League. Jones was
the Atlanta Braves 7th Round pick and played his collegiate baseball at the
University of South Carolina.
The Braves take on the Sand Gnats again tomorrow night at seven o’clock.
