Braves Defeat Tourists and the Rain

Rome, GA – The Rome Braves took game two of their four game series against Asheville 4-2 Wednesday afternoon in a rain shortened affair at State Mutual Stadium. The game was called after a 37 minute rain delay in the middle of the fifth inning before 3,041fans.

The Braves grabbed the early lead in the second inning as Concepcion Rodriguez hit a two run inside the park home run (7) giving Rome the 2-0 advantage. It was the first inside the park home run in Rome Braves history.

The Tourists scored in the third as Hector Gomez had an RBI triple cutting Rome’s lead to 2-1. The Braves added two more runs in the bottom of the inning as Travis Jones singled and later scored on a Tyler Flowers double for the 3-1 score. Flowers later crossed the plate as Phillip Britton tripled giving Rome the 4-1 margin.

Asheville added a run in the fifth to make the score 4-2 but then rain came to wash away the rest of the game. Rome picks up the 4-2 victory and their second win in a row over Asheville.

Tim Gustafson earns the win (3-8) for the Braves as Keith Weiser is tagged with the loss (11-5).

The Braves take on the Tourists again tomorrow night at seven o’clock at State Mutual Stadium. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log on to www.romebraves.com.
