Braves Defeat Tourists and the Rain
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves took game two of their four game series against
Asheville 4-2 Wednesday afternoon in a rain shortened affair at State Mutual
Stadium. The game was called after a 37 minute rain delay in the middle of the
fifth inning before 3,041fans.
The Braves grabbed the early lead in the second inning as Concepcion Rodriguez
hit a two run inside the park home run (7) giving Rome the 2-0 advantage. It
was the first inside the park home run in Rome Braves history.
The Tourists scored in the third as Hector Gomez had an RBI triple cutting
Rome’s lead to 2-1. The Braves added two more runs in the bottom of the
inning as Travis Jones singled and later scored on a Tyler Flowers double for
the 3-1 score. Flowers later crossed the plate as Phillip Britton tripled giving
Rome the 4-1 margin.
Asheville added a run in the fifth to make the score 4-2 but then rain came
to wash away the rest of the game. Rome picks up the 4-2 victory and their second
win in a row over Asheville.
Tim Gustafson earns the win (3-8) for the Braves as Keith Weiser is tagged
with the loss (11-5).
