Rome out Slug Asheville - Braves Sweeps Tourists
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves swept the Asheville Tourists 12-7 Friday night
in front of 3,572 fans. It was the Braves’ ninth victory in their last
ten home games.
Asheville jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning as Hector Gomez singled,
stole second, and later scored on a Michael Paulk base hit. Michael McKenry
walked, Matt Repec doubled, and both later crossed the plate on a two run RBI
single by Jay Cox. Victor Ferrante singled in the final run in the inning.
Rome chipped away at the lead picking up single runs in the first, second,
and third innings. The Braves tied the game 4-4 in the fourth as Travis Jones
was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Phillip Britton RBI double.
The Braves captured the lead for good in the fifth as Jon Mark Owings blasted
a two run homer (10) making the score 6-4. Concepcion Rodriguez later doubled
and crossed the plate on a Yohan Silva single for the 7-4 score. Danny Brezeale,
who walked to reach base, later scored on a Travis Jones sacrifice fly for the
8-4 lead.
Asheville picked up three runs in the seventh inning closing to an 8-7 margin
but Rome scored three insurance runs in the sixth highlighted by a Tyler Flowers
two run homer (7) giving Rome the 11-7 lead. The Braves added another run in
the seventh to pick up the 12-7 victory.
Jeff Lyman gets the win (5-8) for Rome while Aneury Rodriguez is tagged with
the lose (6-7) for Asheville.
