Braves Homer Past Legends - Braves Take First of Four Game Series
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves won the first of a four game series against
the Lexington Legends 5-4 Monday night in front of 2,940 fans. It was the Braves’
tenth victory in their last eleven home games and tenth of the last 13 overall.
Lexington took advantage of two infield errors that led to four unearned runs
in the third inning. Tyler Evans and Nick Moresi both reached on the errors
and Brandon Caipen singled to load the bases. Jordan Parraz doubled to center
scoring all runners for the 3-0 lead. More damage was provided by Lexington’s
sluggers as Max Sapp singled to center field scoring Parraz increasing the lead
to 4-0.
Rome chipped away at Lexington’s lead as Travis Jones blasted his first
of three homeruns in the third making the score 4-1. The Braves continued their
pursuit as Danny Brezeale doubled to left-center in the fifth inning and Jones
went deep once again driving in Brezeale to make the score 4-3.
The Braves marked even in the eighth when Travis Jones sent another pitch over
the center field wall tying the game 4-4. It was Jones’ third home run
of the night marking the first time in Rome Braves history that had ever been
done.
With a promising start in the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Flowers doubled through
the hole at shortstop for the potential go ahead run. Chase Fontaine replaced
Flowers for more speed on the bases and he advanced to third on a groundout
by Ernesto Mejia. Danny Brezeale would then line a single to right scoring Fontaine
for the 5-4 victory.
