Braves Over Legends - Braves Take Two at Home
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves won their second in a row over the Lexington
Legends 8-3 Tuesday night in front of 3,034 fans. It was the Braves who dominated
the scoreboard early putting up six runs in the first three innings. Rome was
11-1 at home in the month of July.
The Braves struck early when Travis Jones walked in the first inning. Phillip
Britton singled to right advancing Jones to third and with runners on the corners,
Jon Mark Owings grounded into a double play scoring Jones for the early 1-0
score.
Lexington answered back when Koby Clemens lined a ground rule double to center
in the second and Greg Buchanan singled to left scoring Clemens matching the
score at 1-1. The Braves got things rolling in the second inning when Chase
Fontaine doubled to right followed by another double by Brandon Hicks, scoring
Fontaine, making the score 2-1. The Braves loaded the bases when both Yohan
Silva and Travis Jones were walked sending Hicks to third. All runners were
driven home thanks to a Phillip Britton double to center giving Rome a 5-1 lead.
Lexington added a run in the third when Nick Moresi homered (7) over the left
field wall making the score 5-2. Shortly afterward, Rome answered back when
both Tyler Flowers and Danny Brezeale singled and Concepcion Rodriguez delivered
with a run scoring single raising the score to 6-2. The Legends added another
run in the fourth when Clemens hit a solo home run (10) for the 6-3 score. The
Braves added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings and hold on for
the 8-3 win.
Sergio Valenzuela gets the win (1-1) for Rome while Bud Norris is tagged with
the lose (1-5) for Lexington.
The Braves play at home again tomorrow against the Legends at one o’clock.
