Braves Unplug Power - Rome Wins First of Four Game Series
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves take the first of a four game series against
the West Virginia Power 7-4 Friday night at State Mutual Stadium in front of
3,812 fans. It was the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Rome jumped on the board early in the first inning when Chase Fontaine hit
a three RBI triple that scored Jon Mark Owings, Tyler Flowers, and Brandon Hicks
making the score 3-0. Danny Brezeale later singled to score Fontaine for the
4-0 advantage. Rome added another run in the second on a RBI double by Owings
for the 5-0 score.
West Virginia pushed two runs across the plate in the third on a RBI double
by Andrew Lefave and a Taylor Green RBI sacrifice fly for the 5-2 score. The
Power inched closer to the Braves lead by adding two runs in the sixth when
Kenny Holmberg walked and Steve Chapman singled. Andy Bouchie then singled to
score Holmberg. Chapman later crossed the plate on a Jared Shaffer balk making
the score 5-4.
This is as close as The Power would get as Rome scored single runs in the seventh
and eighth for the 7-4 win.
Jared Shaffer gets the win (1-0) while Luis Ramirez is tagged with the loss
(1-2).
The Braves face the West Virginia Power tomorrow at 7pm. Saturday is Baseball
