Rome Wins Third in a Row
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves won game three of their four game set with
the Greenville Drive Saturday night 7-4 with a late inning rally in front of
4,944 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
The Drive got on the board first in the third inning when Kris Negron led off
the inning with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a single by Matt
Sheely, and scored on an RBI single by Josh Reddick making the score 1-0. Rome
answered in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Brandon Hicks (3)
with one out tying the score at 1-1. Greenville wasted no time to take the lead
back in the fifth when Negron reached base after being hit by pitch, stole second,
moved to third on a sacrifice, and scored on an RBI ground out by Reddick. Rome
once again tied the game in the sixth at 2-2 when Travis Jones doubled to center
field and scored on a Julio Franco single.
Rome took the lead in the seventh with two outs when Ernesto Mejia doubled.
Robert Marcial came on as a pinch runner and later scored on a single by Concepcion
Rodriguez. Travis Jones then doubled scoring Rodriguez for the 4-2 advantage.
Greenville wouldn’t go quietly as Reddick led off the eighth with a single
and moved to second on a walk to Paul Smyth. Lars Anderson loaded the bases
with a single and Michael Jones walked to force in Reddick. Reid Engel followed
with an RBI fielder’s choice tying the score at 4-4. Rome took the lead
for good in their half of the frame when Franco and Jon Mark Owings both reached
base on a hit by pitch. Yohan Silva then lined a double scoring Franco giving
Rome the 5-4 lead. Danny Brezeale followed with a sacrifice fly to score Owings
and Silva scored as well on a throwing error by Reddick making the score 7-4.
The Rome bullpen held Greenville in the ninth to secure the victory.
Tyler Wilson earns the win (6-4) while pitching the last inning and two thirds
allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one and issuing one walk. Brantley
New (1-2) is charged with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits.
The Braves conclude their series with Greenville tomorrow at 2 pm. Atlanta
