Braves Sweep Drive - Rome Hits the Road for Three Game Trip
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves won the series finale completing the sweep
of the Greenville Drive this afternoon 5-4 in front of 3,065 fans at State Mutual
Stadium. The Braves are 17-1 at home over the last 18 games.
Rome got on the board early in the first inning when Travis Jones led off the
inning with a walk, moved to third on a double by Phillip Britton, and scored
on a Julio Franco single for the early 1-0 lead. Danny Brezeale followed with
a walk and Britton scored when ball four got past the catcher making the score
2-0. Concepcion Rodriguez then doubled to left field to score Franco and Brezeale
for the 4-0 advantage.
Greenville scored in the top of the third when Reid Engel (6) hit a solo home
run to start the inning closing the gap to 4-1. In the fifth, Michael Jones
doubled to right field and scored on Chih-Hsien Chiang’s single closing
the deficit to 4-2. The Drive closed to within a run in the sixth when Paul
Smyth doubled and scored on Lars Anderson’s single to center for the 4-3
score.
Yohan Silva led off the Rome sixth with a walk, stole second, and scored on
an Ernesto Mejia double to push the lead to 5-3. Greenville closed the gap once
more on a Smyth (6) home run for the 5-4 score. The Rome bullpen shut down the
Drive the rest of the way for the victory.
Michael Broadway earns the win (10-5) pitching five and one third of an inning
giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking no one.
Ryan Phillips is charged with the loss (3-3) pitching three innings giving up
four runs on three hits and issuing five walks with two strikeouts. Ryne Reynoso
gets the save (6) getting the last two outs of the game with one strikeout.
The Braves hit the road after an off day for a three game set against Savannah.
Rome will return home on Friday, August 24th to take on the Charleston RiverDogs.
