Rome, GA – The Rome Braves won the opening game of the home stand 7-4
against the Charleston RiverDogs tonight in front of 3,266 fans at State Mutual
Stadium. The Braves are 21-2 at home over the last 23 games.
Charleston got on the board early when James Cooper singled in the first inning,
advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single by Kevin Smith,
and scored on a walk by Joe Muich for the early 1-0 lead. The RiverDogs padded
their lead in the third when Smith singled, advanced to second on a single by
Muich, and scored when Kyle Anson singled to right for the 2-0 advantage.
Rome responded with a run in the bottom half of the third when Ernesto Mejia
hit a solo home run (2) to left field to close the score to 2-1. The Braves
half of the fourth was put on hold for 28 minutes due to a lightning delay and
when the skies cleared, Rome poured on the runs. It all started when Tyler Flowers
walked and scored on Brandon Hicks’ two run homer (4) to left to put Rome
in the lead 3-2. Yohan Silva then doubled followed by a Danny Brezeale walk.
Mejia then hit his second home run of the night (3) to make the score 6-2.

on an errant pickoff throw, and scored on a Smith double. Smith later scored
on a sacrifice fly by Anson closing the score to 6-4. Rome added an insurance
run in the eighth when Jon Mark Owings doubled and scored on a Flowers single
for the 7-4 score. The Braves bullpen shut down the RiverDogs the rest of the
way for the victory.
