Hickory Defeats Braves Again
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves were defeated by the Hickory Crawdads for
the second night in a row by a final score of 14-2 before 4,924 fans. It was
Rome’s fifth consecutive loss.
The Crawdads jumped on the board with three runs in the second inning on a
sacrifice fly by Danny Bomback, an RBI double by Matt Cavagnaro, and a ground
out RBI by Jose De Los Santos. Rome made it a 3-1 game in the third on an RBI
double by Freddie Freeman. Hickory added three runs in the fourth for the 6-1
score on an RBI single by Danny Bomback, an RBI groundout by Matt Cavagnaro,
and an RBI single by Austin McClune.
The Crawdads broke the game open in the fifth with seven runs highlighted by
a two run home run by Miles Durham making the score 13-1. All seven runs were
scored after two outs. Hickory added another run in the ninth for the 14-1 game
and Rome’s Jayson Heyward hit his fifth home run of the season in the
bottom of the ninth for the 14-2 final. The Crawdads had 17 hits in the game
and held the Braves to just four hits.
Matt McSwain gets the win (2-1) for Hickory, the save to Wanell Macia (1),
and Jose Ortegano the loss for the Braves (1-3).
