Rome Takes Two from Kannapolis
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves swept a doubleheader from the Kannapolis Intimidators
2-1 and 3-0 Monday night at State Mutual Stadium before 3,141 fans.
In game one, Kannapolis jumped in front 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI
single by Sergio Miranda. Rome pitching held the Intimidators scoreless the
rest of the way. The Braves tied the game in the fifth on an RBI ground out
by Chad Lundahl. The game was tied going to the bottom of the seventh when Cole
Miles doubled and moved to third on a passed ball. Kannapolis proceeded to walk
the next two hitters intentionally to load the bases with no outs. David Berres
then grounded to first baseman Mark Fleisher who misplayed the ball allowing
Miles to score the winning run. Yeliar Castro (3-5) earns the win for Rome and
Leroy Hunt (2-3) gets the loss.
In game two, the Braves took the lead in the second on a ground out by Michael
Fisher sending Jason Heyward home for the 1-0 lead. In the third inning Rome
added two runs thanks to Freddie Freeman’s two run double giving Rome
the 3-0 score. Braves pitching shutout the Intimidators by holding them to just
four hits to secure the victory. It was Rome’s fourth shutout of the season.
Cole Rohrbough (2-3) gets the win and Tommy Palica (2) the save for the Braves
while Johnnie Lowe (3-5) is tagged with the loss for Kannapolis.
