Braves Run Over Drive
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves defeated the Greenville Drive 3-2 Wednesday
afternoon at State Mutual Stadium in front of 2,549 fans.
In the second inning Rome’s Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward crossed
the plate on a Chad Lundahl single giving the Braves a 2-0 lead. Samuel Sime
later scored in the second inning on an RBI single by David Berres, making the
score 3-0. As it turned out, that’s all the offense the Braves would need
the rest of the afternoon.
Greenville cut into the lead in the third when Will Vazquez scored on a Ryan
Kalish base hit. In the fifth, David Mailman scored on a wild pitch but the
Rome bullpen held the Drive the rest of the game holding on to the 3-2 victory.
Erik Cordier (1-0) gets the win for the Braves going five innings and allowing
just two runs while striking out six. Rome’s bullpen pitched four innings
of shutout baseball surrendering just one hit. Craig Kimbrel (1) gets the save
while Ryne Lawson (4-3) takes the loss for the Drive.
Rome continues the series against Greenville tomorrow with a 7 PM start. It’s
Dollar Drink Night at the stadium. For ticket information contact the Rome Braves
