Rome Wins Sixth Straight
Rome, GA – The Rome Braves defeated the Hagerstown Suns 9-6 Monday night
at State Mutual Stadium in front of 2,437 fans. It was the Braves’ sixth
straight victory and tenth in their last twelve games.
Rome jumped on the board with five runs in the first inning. Jason Heyward,
Freddie Freeman, and Adam Coe all had RBI singles. Cody Johnson and Benji Johnson
each had sacrifice flies to give Rome the lead. The Suns answered back with
five runs of their own in the third to tie the game. Jose Lozada had a solo
home run and Garrett Bass had a single to drive in two runs to highlight the
inning.
The Braves regained the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double
from Chad Lundahl. The lead was short lived as Hagerstown tied the contest in
the fourth on an RBI groundout by Sean Rooney. Rome took the lead for good in
the bottom of the fourth with two runs when Heyward grounded into a double play
and Freddie Freeman added an RBI single for the 8-6 score. The Braves added
another insurance run in the sixth for the 9-6 final score.
Matt Timms (1-1) earns the win while Terrance Engles (3-5) is tagged with the
loss. Tommy Palica gets his seventh save of the season.
Rome and Hagerstown continue their series tomorrow night at seven. It’s
